This just in: Wordless Music has announced a show I was having a hard time keeping under my hat. Julia Holter — a singer, composer and performer about whom I’ve written briefly a few times now, and whose most recent release, Tragedy, was my #1 unclassical album of 2011 — will make her New York City debut on March 6 at Le Poisson Rouge. She’ll share the bill with the deeply wonderful Bay Area pianist Sarah Cahill, who’ll focus on composers of a mystical bent: Scriabin, Dane Rudhyar, Ruth Crawford, Henry Cowell and Erik Satie.
Holter’s next album, Ekstasis, is out March 8 on the RVNG Intl. label, which co-presents this NYC show. Listen to “Marienbad” from that album, and snag your tickets early.
